چکیده

This report presents our approach for multimodal interaction in the COVEN virtual environments and describes the functions and architecture of the multimodal interaction techniques modules that have been developed so far. A first milestone was reached in our work, with the completion of a first set of modules focusing on generic techniques. Both the overall functional architecture and the process architecture are described, with a particular focus on APIs between the VE and NLP/Dialogue sub-systems. Vocabularies for Description of Accessibility Issues in Multimodal User Interfaces

In previous work, we proposed a unified approach for describing multimodal human-computer interaction and interaction constraints in terms of sensual, motor, perceptual and cognitive functions of users. In this paper, we extend this work by providing formalised vocabularies that express human functionalities and anatomical structures required by specific modalities. The central theme of our app...

Achieving Multimodal Cohesion during Intercultural Conversations

How do English as a lingua franca (ELF) speakers achieve multimodal cohesion on the basis of their specific interests and cultural backgrounds? From a dialogic and collaborative view of communication, this study focuses on how verbal and nonverbal modes cohere together during intercultural conversations. The data include approximately 160-minute transcribed video recordings of ELF interactions ...

Multimodal Software for Affective Education: UI Evaluation

This paper focuses on evaluation techniques for multimodal software. We suggest how multimodal educational systems can help us and give a proposal for how to evaluate these systems. Our goal is to come up with human-computer interaction (HCI) evaluation techniques for multimodal systems to support affective education and adapt usability evaluation taking into consideration the cognitive walkthr...

Visualizing Inner Structures in Multimodal Volume Data

With the evolution of medical image acquisition techniques, the capacity and fidelity of image-based diagnosis were extended. The current trend is to acquire information using multiple sources to help medical diagnosis, but the integration of the multivariate data into a single 3-D representation is non-trivial. Techniques for the visualization of multimodal volume data have been developed with...
